Short trip to Hakone for making Haiku 2016/11/09

We went to Hakone for two days for making Haiku. Such short trip is called as “Ginko” and quite popular among Haiku makers.

Hakone is around two hours’ drive from Tokyo by Highway bus and very popular resort with hot spa and beautiful mountain scenery.

We arrived at Hakone Botanic Garden of Wetlands around noon time On November 7th. After taking Japanese noodle lunch, we walked around the garden for two hours to search for quality and suitable materials for Haiku. The garden is surrounded by Hakone Mountains and there are so many kinds of trees and flowers which prefer wet lands. The day was the beginning of winter. It was also the season of Japanese silver grass and yellow leaves.

After finding enough materials for Haiku, we moved to the conference room at a hotel and had a Haiku meeting. We were 8 and each of us made four haikus in short time.

Then we appreciated all Haikus one by one.

It is an important rule to have such a meeting that every member feels free to express his frank opinion with sometime encouragement, and another time with severe criticism. Through such an opportunity, we can improve our ability to make Haiku.

After taking hot spa bath, we enjoyed a dinner together with local sakes and concluded the day with Karaoke party.

Haiku is one of the most popular cultures in Japan and such short trip of Ginko is so healthy and enjoyable physically and mentally
